(D25) From Science to Guidance: Key Updates in the 2025–2030 Dietary Guidelines

The Dietary Guidelines for Americans are updated every five years through a rigorous, transparent scientific process that shapes nutrition policy, education, and practice nationwide. The 2025–2030 Dietary Guidelines for Americans were informed by a comprehensive, evidence-based Scientific Report; however, the final guidelines issued by HHS and USDA reflect additional policy considerations that diverge from some scientific recommendations. This session will review how the Dietary Guidelines are developed, summarize the key nutrition recommendations in the current guidelines, and critically examine areas where evidence-based guidance from the Scientific Report was modified or omitted. Participants will gain practical, actionable takeaways to translate guideline-based nutrition recommendations into real-world education and counseling across diverse populations.
