(D01) Optimizing MASLD Treatment: The Power of Medications Plus Lifestyle Strategies

Metabolic dysfunction–associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD) is a growing global health crisis, closely linked to diabetes, obesity, and cardiometabolic risk. It is a major driver of liver-related morbidity and mortality. This condition is generally "silent" with few if any symptoms and may begin long before a diagnosis of diabetes is made. Using real life patient examples, this session equips DCESs with practical, evidence-based strategies to support early identification and treatment of MASLD through lifestyle interventions and select diabetes and weight-management medications. Emphasis will be placed on patient-centered, interdisciplinary care to improve liver and metabolic outcomes.

Learning Objectives:

At the completion of this activity, participants should be able to:

Explain the relationship between MASLD, T2D, insulin resistance, and cardiometabolic risk, and why early identification is key.
Identify available medications with evidence for MASLD benefit and integrate medication education, monitoring, and patient-centered counseling into interdisciplinary care.
Apply evidence-based lifestyle interventions to support MASLD improvement in people with diabetes.
