A food farmacy is a community-based program that provides people with access to nutritious foods to help them prevent or manage health conditions. Food farmacies are part of the growing “food is medicine” movement. Like medically tailored meal programs, food farmacies use food as a tool to help manage health conditions, such as diabetes, high blood pressure, and obesity, potentially reducing the need for medication or medical care.

Learning Objectives:

At the completion of this activity, participants should be able to:
  • Verbalize the process in creating a food farmacy.
  • Explain the difference between food pantries and a food farmacy.
  • Discuss positive health outcomes from removing food insecurities.
