Diabetes self-management education and support (DSMES) is essential to improving outcomes, enhancing quality of life, and reducing the cost of diabetes care. Despite its proven benefits, DSMES remains underutilized and often undervalued. Diabetes Care and Education Specialists (DCES) are uniquely positioned to change this narrative. This interactive roundtable session will bring DCESs together to share ideas, perspectives, and success stories related to elevating the visibility and value of DSMES. Guided peer discussions will focus on strengthening referral pathways, aligning DSMES outcomes with organizational priorities, and increasing community engagement. Participants will leave with practical ideas and actionable strategies to strengthen partnerships and expand the reach of their DSMES services. This session will be collaborative and may include interactive elements. Please arrive on time to help ensure a smooth and engaging experience for all participants. Seating is limited.
Learning Objectives:
At the completion of this activity, participants should be able to:
Recognize the importance of the DCES as a leader and change agent to increase DSMES awareness and utilization.
Evaluate effective strategies for engaging administrators, prescribers, and the community.
Create action-oriented ideas to strengthen referrals and program visibility.
