Food insecurity is a common but often unrecognized barrier to glycemic stability, especially for people using continuous glucose monitoring (CGM). This session explores how inconsistent access to food can influence CGM patterns, engagement, and self-management. Attendees will learn how to identify CGM tracings that may reflect food insecurity, use brief validated screening tools, and integrate supportive, respectful conversations into clinical encounters. Practical workflows and real-world cases will demonstrate how to connect individuals to resources while maintaining person-centered, culturally responsive care. Attendees will leave with actionable strategies that strengthen equitable diabetes care and support individuals facing food-related challenges.
Learning Objectives:
At the completion of this activity, participants should be able to:
Describe how food insecurity affects glycemic patterns, CGM engagement, and diabetes self-management.
Interpret CGM data patterns that may suggest inconsistent meal access or nutritional instability.
Apply brief food insecurity screening tools and referral workflows within routine diabetes care.
