D27 - Promoting Bone Health: The DCES Role in Preventing Osteoporosis, Falls, and Fractures

When DCESs engage with a person with diabetes, we routinely consider complications and co-morbidities impacting the individual. We aim to identify problems and implement interventions to prevent or delay potential negative sequelae. Osteoporosis, falls, and fractures are associated with diabetes and should be considered along with other co-morbidities and complications. DCESs can play a key role in the identification of a person with, or at risk of, osteoporosis and fracture. This presentation will describe the scope of the problem, review possible causes for falls and fractures, and guide the DCES in identification and interventions to decrease or prevent falls and fractures in an individual with diabetes.
