S06 - Develop Knowledge Beyond Statins: Updates to Lipid Management in Adults With Diabetes

Dyslipidemia in people with diabetes is characterized by increased levels of small dense low-density lipoprotein (LDL) particles, triglycerides and other apolipoprotein B-containing lipoproteins along with a decrease in high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C). These alterations illustrate a link between hyperglycemia and lipid metabolism, ultimately contributing to an enhanced cardiovascular disease risk. Recent updates by the American College of Cardiology and American Diabetes Association offer new guidance on lipid management, particularly related to nonstatin therapy targeting LDL and Non-HDL cholesterol. This session uses a case-based approach where participants can apply the latest recommendations to determine treatment goals and optimize therapy.
