Athena Philis-Tsimikas, MD, a board-certified endocrinologist, is the Corporate Vice President of the Scripps Whittier Diabetes Institute and Diabetes Care Line at Scripps Health in San Diego, California. With over 25 years of experience, she creates programs, conducts research and delivers diabetes services across five Scripps hospitals, thirty outpatient facilities and the community. She is a leader of the innovative Project Dulce and Dulce Digital program which cares for diverse low-resource populations with diabetes. She actively promotes participation of health centers in community-based clinical research with a focus on integrating digital technologies to improve diabetes care in the ambulatory and hospital setting. She serves as the Director of Community Engaged Research for the Scripps Research Translational Institute’s NCATS-funded Clinical Translational Science Award and leads the Diabetes Clinical Research Center for Scripps Health.
