Exercise, Nutrition and Insulin is considered the "Triad" of daily diabetes care. However, these three strategies, when taken together, can lead to negative physiological interactions that make it challenging for the person living with T1D to stay in range or predict glucose outcomes. This is particular for those seeking daily physical activity. Those with T1D and clinicians alike still struggle with dosing strategies between these 3 common interactions despite technological advancement. This presentation will provide insight into the interactions between the "Triad" and how to dose the three strategies accordingly in the physically active person with T1D, through education and case study.
Learning Objectives:
At the completion of this activity, participants should be able to:
Realize how the three "Lifestyle Prescription" doses (exercise, nutrition and insulin) interact acutely and chronically with glucose regulation in T1D.
Understand how to effectively "dose" nutrition and insulin with different exercise before, during and after exercise sessions.
Provide practical solutions to patients using daily “Lifestyle Prescription” strategies to enhance time in range and predict glucose with exercise.
