(S30) A Generative AI Training Tool for Motivational Interviewing Skills

Motivational interviewing is a powerful communication tool that can be used to promote behavior change. In people with T2D, motivational interviewing has been found to impact dietary behaviors and improve medication taking. During this session, participants interact with a novel virtual agent-based training tool to practice their motivational interviewing skills and receive feedback. This session provides a brief overview of motivational interviewing; however, it is strongly recommended that attendees have a baseline knowledge of motivational interviewing.

Learning Objectives:

At the completion of this activity, participants should be able to:
  • Define the core principles of motivational interviewing.
  • Describe how motivational interviewing can be used in diabetes prevention and management.
  • Apply the core principles of motivational interviewing while interacting with a virtual agent.
