Transgender and gender-diverse patients face unique challenges in diabetes management, including hormone therapy, body image concerns, and health care barriers. This case- based session equips diabetes care and education specialists to deliver affirming care. Participants will explore glycemic implications of gender-affirming hormone therapy, considerations for insulin and GLP-1 therapy, and inclusive strategies. Through practical guidance and real-world examples, attendees will gain tools to individualize care, increase patient engagement, and reduce disparities. This session highlights the critical role of DCESs in advancing equity and improving outcomes for gender-diverse people living with diabetes.
Learning Objectives:
At the completion of this activity, participants should be able to:
Describe the effects of gender-affirming hormone therapy on glycemic control, insulin sensitivity, and cardiovascular risk.
