Cardiovascular-kidney-metabolic (CKM) syndrome reflects shared pathophysiologic pathways that extend beyond glycemic impact. This program equips diabetes care and education specialists with a deeper understanding of three key clinical signals (albuminuria, cardiac ejection fraction, and systemic inflammation) and their interconnected roles in CKM progression. Through a practical, physiology-focused lens, participants will explore how these markers reflect vascular injury, cardiac dysfunction, and systemic inflammation, and how early recognition can support risk stratification, patient education, and team-based care across the diabetes-heart-kidney continuum.

Learning Objectives:

At the completion of this activity, participants should be able to:
  • Explain the underlying pathophysiologic mechanisms linking albuminuria, cardiac ejection fraction abnormalities, and inflammation to CKM syndrome progression.
  • Interpret albuminuria levels, ejection fraction categories, and inflammatory signals as indicators of CKM risk in people with diabetes.
  • Apply this integrated understanding to patient education and interprofessional care strategies aimed at slowing CKM progression.
