S25 - Discover the Underserved Population No One is Talking About- T1D Support in a Rural Community

Healthcare providers are often unaware of the unique challenges of people with Type 1 diabetes living in rural communities and may assume their patients’ needs are being met. However, these patients experience higher A1Cs, lower technology use, and lack local resources and support. Certified Diabetes Care and Education Specialists are positioned to bridge this gap. This session presents the challenges of people with Type 1 diabetes living in rural communities, strategies diabetes educators can implement for support, and key interdisciplinary partnerships that can provide better access to care and outcomes for this community.
