Research indicates 33% of those with binge eating disorder (BED) have T2D- and this does not include undiagnosed BED or subclinical "emotional eating." The rise of GLP-1 receptor agonists (RA) has been highlighted in popular media and breaking medical research. For those with emotional eating, can a GLP-1 RA help? In this session, we explore the current research on this class of medications and their impact on disordered eating. We review what BED and emotional eating are and how they impact diabetes management, how the CDCES can appropriately use GLP-1 RAs with patients with disordered eating, and strategies for the CDCES to address emotional eating or BED.
