The framing of clinical conversations can impact the physical, mental, and emotional health of people with diabetes (PWD). Framing refers to choices about how an issue is explained, what is emphasized, and what is said or not said. While some framing and language recommendations to reduce diabetes stigma for healthcare professionals (HCPs) exist, less guidance is available for conversations about diabetes-related complications specifically. This poster reviews a qualitative study that examined how diabetes-related complications are discussed in clinics and the emotional impact of these conversations on PWD to inform recommendations for improving the framing of conversations about diabetes-related complications.
