(P324) Using Virtual Reality to Address Diabetes Distress

A high prevalence of diabetes distress (DD) was observed among uninsured patients with diabetes at a free Clinic. Addressing this issue is essential to improving patient outcomes. Immersive virtual reality (VR) has been proven to have beneficial effects on the psychological stressors associated with managing chronic diseases. The purpose of this quality improvement project was to implement VR simulation sessions for patients exhibiting DD to induce relaxation during a diabetes education session. Currently, four patients are enrolled in the study. Our poster presents the processes, outcomes, and lessons learned from implementing this innovative quality improvement project at a clinic serving uninsured patients with diabetes.
