The American Diabetes Association (ADA) recommends diabetes self-management education and support (DSMES) for all individuals with diabetes and endorses continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) for those who meet specific clinical criteria. CGM has been linked to improved glycemic management in individuals with type 1 and type 2 diabetes. As CGM adoption expands, understanding how structured support influences early outcomes is critical to optimizing success and long-term diabetes management. This poster outlines a study whose objective was to evaluate the effectiveness of coaching and education from a certified diabetes care and education specialist (CDCES) on glycemic management and self-efficacy in individuals new to CGM provided by a durable medical equipment (DME) company. This prospective, randomized, open-label study enrolled adults with type 1 or type 2 diabetes new to Dexcom G7 CGM. Participants were randomized to standard onboarding support (CGM-O cohort) or an enhanced multi-channel coaching and education program (CGM-LC cohort). The CGM-O cohort received onboarding support and used their devices as instructed by their healthcare provider. The CGM-LC cohort received onboarding and enrolled in a DEAP-accredited, multi-channel diabetes education program that included coaching sessions led by a team of CDCESs.
