(P200) Adapting Diabetes Support Resources for American Indian and Alaska Native Communities

American Indian and Alaska Native (AI/AN) adults have a greater chance of having T2D than any other U.S. racial group. For 20 years, CDC’s New Beginnings: A Discussion Guide for Living Well With Diabetes has supported community-level efforts to address the emotional impact of diabetes by building supportive relationships through activities, storytelling, and facilitated discussions. This poster describes how the resource was adapted for AI/AN communities with expert recommendations and using a cultural value-based framework with real stories to engage participants and foster the learning of new skills to manage diabetes.
