(P303) Bypassing Bias: Improve Communication to Close the Gap Between Expectations and Actions

Healthcare professionals often face a disconnect between what patients say they plan to do and what actually happens. These gaps are widened by bias, missed cues, and common communication habits. This poster shares the WhisperQuake approach—a practical coaching method that helps clinicians bypass bias by reflecting patients’ own words, not assumptions. It fosters deeper engagement, builds trust, and leads to better alignment between conversations and real-life choices. Clinicians using these strategies report feeling more effective and less burned out. The approach supports the entire diabetes care team by improving communication, strengthening relationships, and helping patients feel heard, without pressure, judgment, or pre-set agendas.
