(P216) Utilization of Bilingual Health Career Students to Bridge a Gap in Access to Diabetes Education

This poster describes a project that aims to remove barriers to accessing DSMES for Spanish-speaking adults with diabetes. A team of bilingual health profession students was assembled and assisted the APRN/CDCES faculty in developing a culturally tailored DSME program curriculum using the ADCES7 as a guide. The authors highlight what the students and patients learned and the biometric outcomes they are tracking. They describe how new grant funding allows them to provide additional screening and supplies to participants and how they measure and compare the students' diabetes knowledge before and after participating in the program.
