(P209) Nursing Care of a Patient with Congenital Generalized Lipodystrophy

The poster presentation covers the pathophysiology, clinical manifestations, diagnostic tests, and treatment modalities of Congenital Generalized Lipodystrophy (CGL), a rare condition affecting mostly young females. Due to multiple organ systems involved and subsequent comorbidities from CGL, members of the care team, especially nurses, face challenges in devising comprehensive care based on individual needs. This poster uses a case study to highlight a unique approach to disease management, including patient education on following the treatment plan and sticking with the protocol, nutrition, participation in care, self-injection demonstration, and discharge instructions, among other topics. Follow-up visits and multidisciplinary collaboration are necessary for consistent care management to help ease the care burden on patients and their families, and caregivers.
